Tappy Lappy Quartet
“Sheer class! Insightful arrangements and truly original compositions put Tappy
Lappy Quartet far above many of their musical peers.”  David Foley (Rura, Folklub

English folk group Tappy Lappy Quartet combines traditional with original music to create intricate and captivating arrangements. Featuring the soulful melodeon playing of Dave Gray, bewitching vocals of Bryony Bainbridge and driving guitar and fiddle playing of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winners Matt Jones and Kev Lees, Tappy Lappy Quartet performs engaging songs, lively melodies and compelling harmonies. Having met on the vibrant folk scene of Newcastle upon Tyne before touring parts of the world separately, the musicians have joined to re-visit their roots whilst drawing on new influences. Expect musicianship of the highest order.

Dave Gray (Melodeon) has quickly established himself as a fine player on the English folk scene. Recognised for his expressive style and enthusiastic presence on stage, Dave can be seen performing with Världens Band, Jim Boyle & Dave Gray and Horizontal Sunday. Bryony Bainbridge (Fiddle & Song), previous finalist at the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, is a fine exponent of traditional song, drawing on her strong background in classical music to create a fresh and contemporary sound.
Matt Jones (Guitar) started out playing at Newcastle’s Irish Centre before discovering the wealth of music from Northumberland, Scotland and Scandinavia. Known for his steadfast playing and innovative arranging, Matt performs around the world with Världens Band, McPeake and Rhona Dalling.
Kev Lees (Fiddle), a fine player of Scottish and Northumbrian traditions, has toured the major UK folk festivals with bands Last Orders and Monster Ceilidh Band. Now he can be found exploring the Danish music scene whilst playing with D.u.K, Night Fall and King Cole.

Currently based on opposite sides of the North Sea, Tappy Lappy Quartet is available for bookings across the UK, Denmark and Germany with their brand new EP.

Intelligence is the Key

Crime intelligence is a key element of the work that the Police do. Many enquiries involve the collation of a wide variety of information in order that a successful prosecution can be achieved. But intelligence gathering is much more than this. Often it is the way by which officers from our Community teams get a full picture of what is happening in their areas, and often involves details of suspicious incidents seen by the public being passed onto us.

Public appeals through the press are routinely made at local level; sometimes at national level for serious offences. They raise the profile of serious incidents in the hope that information can be gathered which will lead to the successful prosecution of an offender. But the need to gather intelligence can be equally important in the day to day policing of our neighbourhoods as well.

A conversation an officer has in the street; an incident log received at the Police Station detailing a suspicious person or vehicle seen; that sighting of an individual who’s moved into the area, all can sometimes provide officers with that extra piece in the jigsaw that they need.

If you get a suspicious individual wandering around; if you see a suspicious vehicle driving slowly around your estate; if you notice something unusual at a house that you think is out of the ordinary, you have two choices: either ignore it, and hope it isn’t anything important, or contact the Police. We’d much prefer that you called us! We’d rather check on something to find it’s in order than not know and later find out that a crime has occurred.

Our officers are out on patrol and routinely stop check people or vehicles. But they can’t be everywhere all the time and your help is essential in helping ensure that we get the intelligence we need.

So please, let us know if you see anything suspicious in your neighbourhood. If you can safely get a registration number of a vehicle or a description of a person, please do so as this all helps build the bigger picture and could help detect or deter a crime.

Call us on the Non Emergency Number 101 or 999 in an emergency or if a crime is occurring.

Broadband Connection To Bielby

I don't know if it is common knowledge, but the BT Openreach website is advising that the high speed broadband connection to Bielby is now open for orders. I placed an order with BT on Thursday and was advised we would be connected on Monday 8th August and could expect speeds around 54-55 Mb/s with a guaranteed minimum of 46 Mb/s, i.e. about 50 times faster than we get now. The 'guarantee' does not necessarily mean we will get 46 Mb/sec and I will be pleasantly surprised if we do, but we will wait and see next week.

Fishing Rights For The Beck

Could anyone help, I am trying to find who owns fishing rights for the beck, particularly the section from Mill Bridge to where the path crosses to the canal swing bridge but any section will do. I also notice that you have old posts regarding needing volunteers needed to help with clearing the beck etc.. although these are now past events I would willingly help out in return for being able to practice my fly casting (strictly catch and release). Although I do not live in the village I am local.
Regards,
Nigel Proctor

If anyone has any info for Nigel, please fill out the contact form and I will pass on your info. Thanks.
